Problems with Surfaces and Sides in your SketchUp Model?

Learn the best way to visualize correctly your SketchUp Model

Why I cannot see some surfaces on my 3D model?

We've noticed sometimes the surfaces of the 3D models disappear. Floors, windows, and walls it's lost when you upload your model of Sketchup to VR, but no worries, we have the solution.

Answer: Need to extrude/pull or push the plane. Sketchup is a surface or face modeler, no solid modeler, for that reason it’s not possible to view some faces when you upload to SENTIO VR. Sketchup faces have a front side and back side.

How to fix?

Reverse faces in my models

If the first solution doesn’t work, you must reverse faces on your model, but why you must to do that?

Well, as I say before, Sketchup is a surface or face modeler, no solid modeler, for that reason it’s not possible view some faces. You can see gray and white color in the surfaces, if you don´t reverse that faces affects performance in a couple different areas. When you upload or import your model to other programs or platforms is not possible to visualize some surfaces or view vibrating.

Solution Options you can do:

  • Reverse faces one by one and extrude
  • Select all the faces and orient faces
  • Create a new style on edit face settings
  • Use extensions: Install Solid Inspector (works really good) Select the complete model and fix that reverse problem.

Reasons why reverse some faces

  • Good Habit: Keep your model organized and optimized the way that it needs to be.
  • Rendering materials: See real materials (looks artificial when you add the texture only in one face)
  • Light objects: Some lights no looks black creating a render
  • Compatibility with other programs: Upload faster and see surfaces when you upload a 3D model to SENTIO VR or import to other software, (some backfaces are ignored when you don´t reverse faces)
  • Avoid overlapping in rendering
